Week of April 10th
Hi everyone! I hope you had a nice break!
Since we have so many kids, I am going to split the kids up by grade this week:
7th and 8th graders - Wednesday, April 12, after school until 5:00pm.
6th graders - Thursday, April 13th (HALF DAY), after school until 1:30
If your child cannot make it, no big deal. I know it may be a challenge with transportation on the half day. Also, we have so many kids that it is sometimes challenging to find something for everyone to do.
I am trying to plan ahead for the upcoming weeks. Can you please let me know if you child will be available after school for the whole show run through on the 20th and the 21st, as well as the entire week of April 24th through the 29th (Tech week and performances - after school until 7:00 (M, Tu, Wed); until 8:30pm (Th, Fri, Sat))? Only the kids who will be at every practice and performance will be working backstage so that I can be confident that they know what they are doing. From the kids who are available for everything, I will pick kids based on grade first (8th graders have preference, then 7th, then 6th) and reliability second. If your child has other commitments, that is fine, just let me know so I do not assign him/her a crucial job. Unfortunately I can only have about 8 kids back stage since there is limited space. Everyone else will be assigned a different job (I am currently working on a list).
Let me know if you have any questions.

Week 3/27-3/31
Hi Everyone!
Thank you to all of the kids who came to the workshop yesterday! It was a little chaotic but I think we accomplished a lot. We are thankful that so many kids want to do crew this year (28 total), but with so many kids comes many challenges. We are finding that we are not able to keep this many kids busy the entire time that we meet. Yesterday was especially challenging since some of the jobs we were going to have the crew work on were done by cast members. I am working on a plan for the future weeks where I will most likely have to assign each kid a specific job that they will be responsible for. These jobs may even include helping out other committees such as decorations and concessions.
Crew will not meet this upcoming week. We will resume after Spring Break, so look for an email the weekend before they come back. Have a great week!

Week of March 20 - 24
Hi everyone!
We will be having all crew members stay after school this Wednesday (March 22) for group and individual head shots. Please have them wear or bring a black crew neck shirt for these pictures. If your child cannot make it Wednesday, there will be a make up day for head shots in the future. After the kids take pictures, we will start working on some set painting projects. Plan on 5:00 for pick up on Wednesday (this will be our normal after school work schedule on the days crew is needed - 3:15-5:00). Also, please remember to pack a snack for your child if they get hungry after school!
On Saturday, March 25, we are having our annual Tech Workshop from 3:30 - 6:00. All cast and crew is expected to attend. On this day we will be working on a lot of set and prop projects as well as some costume assistance. Make sure your children are dressed appropriately since they will be painting and doing other craft projects.
Have a great week!

Week of March 13 - 17
Hi everyone!
We will not need the crew this week as we are awaiting the completion of some set pieces. We will want the crew to stay after school on Wednesday, March 22. Right after school, the kids will be getting their head shots taken (for the program) as well as a group shot. Please make sure they wear a black t-shirt for the shot. After their pictures they will start painting some of the items we will have ready for them. We will plan on having them stay until 5:00 that afternoon. I will send a reminder of this next weekend but I wanted to give you a heads up now. Have a great week!

March 7th
Welcome Derby Crew Parents! My name is Leslie Voigt and I am the crew coordinator for this year’s production of Legally Blonde. I am in charge of helping your kids assist with this year’s production behind the scenes. This year the kids will have a lot of set painting and prop organizing prior to the show, and will be responsible for all of the backstage activity during the performances (i.e., moving of sets between scenes, keeping track of props, etc.). Because of the nature of this year’s show, we do not have a lot of props the kids can make, so most of their work will be focused on the sets. Each weekend I will send out an email detailing our crew needs for the upcoming week. When we meet, it will be right after school in the hallway outside of the gym. On these days, please send a snack with your child if they are typically hungry after school.

Next week, we will most likely have the kids stay after one day to start priming some of the large set pieces. Look for an email over the weekend with details! Hopefully, all of your kids will be able to make our meeting on Saturday, March 25th at 3:00 pm where we will have a lot of projects for them to work on. More details to come on that! Please let me know if you have any questions at this time. My e-mail is leslie.voigt@me.com .

There is no need to let me know weekly if your child can or cannot make it. We have such a large group that I am sure we will get ample turnout on any given day. When it comes closer to the performance days, there will be some mandatory dates when the show is being run through. There will be more information on these dates as we get closer to the end of April. I hope your kids have fun!
